THREE TO GO

AS of January 12, Dagupan City is now 90 percent drug-free following the declaration of Barangays Pantal and Pogo Chico as drug–free, raising the number of villages cleared of illegal drugs to 28.

The separate declarations of the two barangays being clear of illegal drugs was signed by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez after Dagupan City Police Station Chief P/Supt, Neil O. Miro presented the resolutions of Barangays Pantal and Pogo Chico certifying that there are no more drug pushers or users in their barangays which he confirmed.

The certification included profiles of different surrendered drug personalities in the two barangays, which were validated and revalidated by the police.

Miro said Barangays 2 & 3, Calmay and Pugaro cannot still be declared drug-free because some 20 drug personalities in the three barangays remain unaccounted for.

According to Miro, the wanted drug personalities in Barangay Pugaro belong to the Garcia Group, while the drug personality being sought in Calmay was the subject of an earlier warrant of arrest but managed to escape after being tipped off.

He said they are still looking for some Muslim drug personalities in Barangay 2 & 3 who are known to be visiting the village at night.

Miro explained that Barangays Pantal and Pogo Chico should have been cleared earlier had they met the last requirement set by Dangerous Drugs Board Resolution, series of 2010, a resolution that certifies they don’t have a drug pusher and user in the village.

Mayor Fernandez expressed elation over the latest development declaring the two  barangays as drug-free even as she maintained that she leaves it entirely to the city police to determine when to declare the remaining three problematic barangays drug-free.

“I told our chief that I am not going to sign any declaration until I am assured that drug-trading in those barangays have really stopped,” said Fernandez.

Pogo Chico Barangay Chairman Brian Kua felt relieved that his barangay has been finally declared drug-free. He added that that since the campaign against drug started, his barangay was no longer a haven for ‘akyat bahay’ syndicates.

Some 20 drug personalities surrendered earlier in Pogo Chico.

Pantal Barangay Chairperson Julie Ann Perez was overjoyed now that her barangay is already counted as one among the drug-free barangays in the city.

“We owe this to our barangaymates who cooperated with us, giving us information about drug transactions in their sitios” said Perez who added that point persons have been designated in every sitio to constantly monitor their areas in order to keep the barangay drug-free.
