THERE are 39 new fish landing facilities being constructed in 54 coastal towns and cities in Region 1 to help fisher folk in their livelihood.

This was confirmed by Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 1 Director Nestor Domenden.

The construction of 17 landing facilities started in 2016 and 22 more will be constructed this year in the coastal municipalities and cities like Alaminos, Dagupan, Vigan, San Fernando, Laoag, and Candon.

In 2015 there were 6 fish landing projects completed.

Domenden said the facilities are expected to boost the export industry of aquaculture and mariculture products to Europe and USA since it will facilitate and improve handling of fish.

He added that aside from fish landing facilities, the government will soon construct cold storage facilities and fish stalls in the coastal towns and cities.

Domenden said the fisher folk in the region can look forward to better things given the commitment of the Duterte to alleviate the fishing conditions of communities in coastal areas. (Nora Dominguez)
