FROM ‘MARCOS BULLIONS’

CALASIAO—For the past weeks, unusual big number of groups of people from different towns in Pangasinan have been queuing at the Bureau of Revenue (BIR) office here to apply for and secure their respective Tax Identification Number (TIN).

For decades, nothing in the past could usually compel residents to apply for their TINs but this time, it turned out that a promise of a possible P10,000 cash in return not from the government but reportedly from the “Marcos’ bullions” did the trick.

Alma Yutuc, officer-in-charge of Client Support Section in charged of TIN issuance who noticed the “very unusual” influx of applicants, said many admitted to have done so because of the promise given them by a still unidentified ‘coordinator’ of ‘Marcos bullions’ that they will receive as much as P10,000 monthly once the transactions over bullions commence.

The applicants were reportedly told that anyone who applies has a TIN and submits documents required like birth certificate or any government issued ID can qualify for the monthly income.

One applicant reportedly submitted a signed document that appeared like her resume with marking “Bullion Buyer Ltd”.

The applicants were told that the new scheme is similar to the government’s pro-poor 4Ps or Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.

The applicants were observed to arrive 10 or more at a time, Yutuc said, but they were embarrassed and refused to name their ‘coordinator’. (Tita Roces)
