Four wounded in grenade explosion

BINALONAN — The four wounded victims of a grenade explosion here last December 24 were finally discharged from the hospital on January 2.

P/Chief Inspector Lovell Dalisay, town police chief, said he checked on the wounded victims Wednesday in their residence in Barangay San Felipe Central here following the Dec. 24 explosion.

Gilbert Esquejo, 30, who was drunk at the time, found the grenade (from a M203 grenade launcher) partly covered with soil while walking on his way home along the road in Sitio Palapad East, Barangay San Felipe Central here.

Upon reaching home, he tossed the grenade on the ground and it exploded.

Wounded in the explosion with him were his nephews Jhemar Estrada, 4, Renato Estrada Jr, 14, and mother, Lourdes Esquejo, 68. all residents in one compound in San Felipe Central. The victims’ house was also slightly damaged.

Dalisay said the victims decided not to report the incident to the police.

While no shrapnel of the grenade could no longer be found, Dalisay said such a grenade can only be traced to the police or military. (Tita Roces)
