Firecracker vendors in city warned

WHILE 25 firecracker vendors have been allowed to sell their wares at the designated firecracker zone in Barangay Poblacion Oeste under the New Pantal Bridge, they have been warned by the police against selling banned firecrackers.

Mayor Belen Fernandez decided to allow the vendors to sell firecrackers for humanitarian reasons because the vendors already secured their permits from Camp Crame and already bought their stocks in October.

She said she allowed them on condition that must sell only the firecrackers authorized by the police and they abide by all the requirements set by the city police and Bureau of Fire Protection.

P/Supt. Neil Miro, city police chief, said he will not allow any vendor to sell firecrackers in front of the West Central Elementary School like they used to.

“They should not try me,” he said.

Fernandez also warned the vendors about keeping their stocked banned firecrackers at their homes since these remain a hazard to the communities.

She urged city residents to refrain from lighting firecrackers and instead watch and participate in the community fireworks display to be set up in every barangay before New Year’s Eve. (Leonardo Micua)
