DAGUPAN City recorded only 18 firecracker injuries, from 27 of the previous year, when its residents welcomed the year 2017, according to a report of the Dagupan City Police Station (DCPS).

Superintendent Neil O. Miro, acting-DCPS chief, reported this to Mayor Belen T. Fernandez during a traditional courtesy call on her at the city museum on January 3 during the first working day of the year.

This was confirmed by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) City Director Rhoderick Dawis and Cluster 2 Pangasinan head Victoria Jean Paras Dawis, who joined Miro in the courtesy call.

The two informed the mayor that there was no reported indiscriminate firing of firearms in the city as well.

Barangay Pogo Grande also did not observe its 17th New Year Day tradition of exploding all unsold firecrackers in compliance with Oplan: Iwas Paputok.

“We are glad to report that the call for “Iwas Paputok”, a campaign initiated by the Department of Health was faithfully observed in our city through the aggressive participation of our City Mayor and the Punong Barangays and our PNP as well,” said Miro.

“We will make a review of the loopholes and lapses if ever there were, to make sure that the same thing will not be repeated in the next holidays and city fiesta celebration,” assured Miro. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
