City to deploy more traffic enforcers

THE Dagupan City government is considering hiring and deploying more traffic enforcers to help enforce road and traffic discipline in the city.

“We need to hire additional traffic enforcers to guide the motorists and the pedestrians to get used to observing the traffic lights, to prevent counter-flow and strictly implement ‘no parking’ ordinance,” said Mayor Belen T. Fernandez.

She said she hopes to see more improvement in the city’s traffic flow by 30 to 50 percent next month.

To further motivate traffic enforcers to reject bribe offers from traffic offenders, Fernandez will propose an adjustment in their salaries or additional allowance for them.

One traffic enforcer who was recently caught accepting bribe was immediately relieved and is now facing criminal and administrative charges.

“I want our traffic enforcers to wear their uniform with dignity and pride especially now that they are wearing a new uniform,” said Fernandez. (CIO/JCB)
