City police: No shooting incident at ‘Paseo’

By January 8, 2017News, Peace and Order

THERE was no shooting incident that supposedly killed seven persons on January 2 at the Paseo de Belen along the Judge Jose de Venecia Sr. Expressway in Dagupan City.

This was promptly clarified by P/Superintendent Neil O. MIro, Dagupan City police chief, to belie a post on Facebook that a shooting incident happened at the Paseo de Belen where seven persons allegedly died.

Miro condemned the false post that went viral and described the false information a product of a sick mind.

The post that went viral initially caused anxiety among residents.

Miro, however, admitted that a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) was spotted at the nativity scene of Barangay Tebeng on Monday night, shortly after fire gutted the entry of Barangay Mamalingling.

The reported discovery of the suspected IED prompted the police to set up a blockade on both ends of the De Venecia Expressway.

Again, the fire incident and the rumored find of an IED were posted on FB apparently to sow fear among regular visitors to the Paseo de Belen and the carnival.

Miro said there is a police investigation on the identities of those who posted and spread the false stories about a shooting incident. (CIO/JCB)
