Twelve of the victims are male while only one is female. Ten of the victims injured their hands, one in the eye and two on the leg.

The victims lighted piccolo, five-star, kwitis, boga and luces.

The twelve were active while the youngest victim, was passive which means he did not light the firecrackers but was hit.

The victims were treated at the Western Pangasinan District Hospital, Manaoag Community Hospital, Umingan Community Hospital, Pangasinan Provincial Hospital, Urdaneta District Hospital, Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital, Mapandan Community Hospital and Mangatarem District Hospital.

Last year, as of Dec. 28, 2015, there were 20 cases of firecracker injuries reported or 35 percent lower.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health Region 1 has raised code white alert status five sentinel hospitals to treat firecracker victims.

Among these sentinel hospitals is the Region 1 Medical Center based in Dagupan City.

Dr. Noel Manaois, R1MC spokesperson said, code white alert means they are ready to accommodate 50 patients of firecrackers at a time and enough supply of anti-tetanus medicines and anesthesia while surgeons and medical staff are on standby in the designated fast lane for the would-be firecracker victims.
