Tambac Road now Prosperity Road

THE road that was once called Abortion Road in Barangay Tambac, Dagupan City is now referred to as Prosperity Road after it was upgraded through the efforts of former Congressman Gina de Venecia and her son, Christopher “Toff” De Venecia.

It was called Abortion Road because many motorists refused to take the road because they know that the conditions are so bad that if a pregnant mother is traveling through it, she surely would suffer a miscarriage.

But that has changed since the upgrading of the road up to the border of Tebeng was already completed at a cost of P13 million and inaugurated on December 6.

Cong. Toff is joined by his parents, former Speaker Jose de Vencia and his former Cong. Gina de Venecia, and Mayor Belen Fernandez during the Inauguration of the newly constructed Tambac-Tebeng Road, that earned the moniker ‘Abortion Road’ due to its then rough and bumpy condition that could have caused a pregnant mother to suffer a miscarriage.

In his speech during the inauguration of the first phase of the Tambac-Tebeng Road, Rep. De Venecia said that for many years, the people in the two villages had to endure rough travel on the dilapidated roadway.

“But thanks to the DPWH and to our former congresswoman–my mother Manay Gina, our Tambac-Tebeng Road is now closer at becoming a Prosperity Road because once fully concreted, it will enhance trade and commerce and improve the life of our barangay folks,” said Rep De Venecia.

The completed Tambac Road has length of 780 meters and funded at a cost of  P13 million.

Construction of the Tebeng side of the road is set to be completed before next year’s rainy season. Bidding for this project will be completed any time this December.

“When this project is fully completed, this will be called “Abortion Road” no more and instead as “Prosperity Road,” he said.

De Venecia said he will continue the infrastructure projects started by her mother Gina and by his father, former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr.

He said he will also continue the De Venecia Scholarship Programs that already graduated thousands of students in the Fourth District of Pangasinan and the regular Medical and Dental Mission in Dagupan City, Mangaldan, San Fabian, San Jacinto and Manaoag.

He said there were 475 college scholars under the De Venecia Scholarship Program started by his father since the 1970s, and it has since served more than 25,000.

His latest medical missions were held in Palua, Mangaldan and Tapuac, Dagupan City..

In Dagupan, he said he and Mayor Belen Fernandez are set to reintroduce new plans to re-engineer Balon Dagupan  as tourism hub in Pangasinan for domestic and foreign tourists.

Among potential tourist attractions he proposed to help develop in Dagupan with Mayor Fernandez are:

  1. River cruise in Pantal
  2. Agri-tourism capability of NIFTDC-BFAR
  3. Tondaligan boardwalk (already endorsed by the Department of  Tourism to DPWH)
  4. Pantal promenade (already endorsed by the Dept of Tourism to DPWH)
  5. Pantal floating market
  6. Food Tour
  7. Bahay ni McArthur
  8. Cultural Festivals
