PROVINCIAL Health Office (PHO) warned that the cold weather normally results in rise in cardiovascular cases or stroke, respiratory tract infection and gastroenteritis.

According to Dr. Ana de Guzman, PHO head, said six have already died due to stroke in December alone while there are 8,499 cases of gastroenteritis or diarrhea, 41 of which died.

She added, historically, asthma, pneumonia, cold and cough cases also increase during the cold weather in December until mid-January.

She warned that the cold temperature in the morning usually triggers hypertension so she advises the public to keep themselves warm by using thicker blanket or sweater.

She also urged persons with hypertension to avoid eating fatty foods during this period, including persons with diabetes, not to miss their regular maintenance medicines. (Nora Dominguez)
