WAR ON DRUGS IN REGION 1

THE Pangasinan police still leads in Region 1 in the number of arrested drug personalities, including drug pushers and users who surrendered under Project ‘Double Barrel’, according to records of the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1).

The office of P/Chief Supt. Gregorio Pimentel, PRO1 regional director, reported that the Pangasinan police accounted for 180 drug personalities arrested; La Union police arrested 66; Ilocos Sur police, 11 and Ilocos Norte police, 11.

In the region, a total of 273,167 house visitations were conducted regionwide that resulted to the surrender of 1,223 drug personalities since July 1.

There were 963 drug pushers and users who surrendered to the police in Pangasinan while La Union listed 137, Ilocos Sur, 50; and Ilocos Norte,  and 73 or a total of 1,233.

From the start of Project Double Barrel to date, the Region 1 police conducted a total of 273,167 house visitations.

Pimentel said all the personalities who surrendered signed their individual pledge of commitment vowing to stop their illegal activities and their support to the government’s anti-drugs program.

The war on drugs in Region 1, said Pimentel, has been intensified further with the launching of Project Double Barrel Alpha which is an extension and expansion of the original Project: “Double Barrel”.

He said Oplan Double Barrel Alpha already accounted for 268 drug personalities since its launching Oct. 28 to date.

Under this program, he said, the police are shifting their focus on the neutralization of high-value targets (HVTs) involved in the illegal drug trades as well as in drug clearing operations of all drug-affected barangays nationwide.

“The Double Barrel Alpha of the PNP focuses on HVTs by disrupting drug routes and limiting the use of the country as transshipment point of illegal drugs,” Pimentel said.

Meanwhile, “Tokhang” (Toktok and Hangyo, (both Visayan terms) will be extended and expanded to visitations of schools, business establishments, subdivisions and condominium.

On the other hand, “Taphang” or dialogue will also be employed to different strategic groups of people to persuade them not to use and/or push illegal drugs,” Chief Supt. Pimentel added. (Leonardo Micua)
