More irrigation facilities for Mangatarem farmers set

FARMERS in Mangatarem can now look forward to bountiful harvests with the newly irrigation facility in Barangay Malabobo.

Second District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil, together with officials of Mangatarem, the National Irrigation Administration Regional and provincial government, led the inauguration of the facility and turned it over to the farmers ‘association.

Bataoil said the project will benefit mainly the farmers in the mountainous area of Mangatarem.

National Irrigation Administration Region 1 Director John Celeste said the new P32- million communal irrigation system that can irrigate 674 hectares of rice field, was funded by the national government.

He said to enable farmers have a year-round planting season, NIA is constructing more CIS projects in Mangatarem, namely: Bantay Buenlag that can irrigate 60 hectares; Soriano Tagak area (now on it’s Phase 3) that can irrigate100 hectares; Nancasalan that can irrigate 60 hectares, Nancasalan’s Phase 2 that can irrigate 80 hectares; and Bantocaling that can irrigate 50 hectares.

The construction of Agno River Irrigation System (ARIS) in San Manuel area and ARIS-Laoac area are also underway. (Nora Dominguez)
