“NO demolition if there is no relocation”.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez underscored this as a policy as she revealed that some 2,000 informal settlers more are set to be relocated by the city government in the next few months or years.

Of these, she said, some 1,000 are living in danger zones such as river banks and seashores prone to flood and storm surge.

The other 1,000 live along esteros connected to inlets that drain their water wastes to the rivers.

She said, 250 to 400 settlers in various danger zones are set to be relocated to a city government lot in Bonuan Boquig with the help of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

“It may take five years to relocate these informal settlers physically and supported by programs that will give them livelihood and employment in the resettlement areas,” she said.

People from various parts of Pangasinan are coming to Dagupan because the city with only 49 square kilometers in land area, is the center of trade and commerce and hub of education and health care all in the province.

She reiterated that her administration has adopted as a policy not to relocate unless an area for relocation has been identified.
