Benchmark bags 2016 ‘POGI’ Sportsfest crown

Lingayen – The Benchmark team reigned supreme as it amassed 349.5 over-all points to secure the most-coveted top plum of the 1st Pagalaw tan Olupan ed Gobyerno Itanduro (POGI) Sportsfest of the provincial government.

Benchmark team earned 95.5 more points to edge archrival Warriors team which settled in 1st runner-up spot with 254 points.

​Landing as 2nd runner-up, Generals team scored229.5 points. Third to sixth runners – up were: Legislators (154 pts.), Builders (152.5 pts.), Medics (145 pts.) and Financiers (109.5 pts).

​Governor Amado ‘Pogi’ I. Espino, III is expected to lead the POGI sportsfest closing ceremonies during the Capitol’s Christmas Party at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center on December 16 where the winners in individual and team sports will be recognized.

​The month-long sportsfest which forms part of the employee development thrust of the provincial administration saw the intense battle of the seven competing teams vying for supremacy in various categories of nine sporting events, including the cheerdance competition and search for sportsfest’s muse.

​Sports director Modesto Operania, Sportsfest event chairperson, bared that Benchmark team was the highest pointer in six events, namely: badminton, cheerdance, fun run, sportsfest’s muse, table tennis and volleyball; the top team was second highest pointer in basketball, lawn tennis and tug-of-war while it ranked third in track events.

​Warriors team relied on track events and tug-of-war, settled second in cheerdance, badminton and placed third in basketball, sportsfest muse and table tennis.

​Generals team, on the other hand, prevailed as highest pointer in basketball and lawn tennis, second in chess and third in fun run and volleyball.

​Legislators dominated in chess and ranked third in lawn tennis while Builders team settled second in table tennis and volleyball and third place in tug-of-war.

​Medics team garnered second place in fun run and track events, and third place in chess and cheerdance while Financiers was second in badminton and sportsfest muse. /Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca
