THE Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) on Tuesday approved the resolution authorizing Mayor Belen T. Fernandez to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Duarte in California for the purpose of establishing a sister city relationship.

Authors Councilors Marvin V. Fabia and Dennis C. Canto said the resolution seeks to expand the city’s sphere of diplomatic relations by establishing friendship ties anchored on shared and mutual ideas, vision and principles.

“This is to include the mutual economic, social, political and cultural benefits and the advancement of international relations, goodwill and cooperation, particularly through reciprocal social and cultural exchanges,” said Canto.

A copy of the resolution will be sent to Mayor Samuel Kang of the City of Duarte in California.

Earlier the SP also approved the establishment of sisterhood relationship with Xiamen, China.

Dagupan’s sisterhood ties with Milpitas in California made possible the hosting of high school students from both public and private schools as part of the student exchange program between the two cities. (CIO/JCB)
