THE city’s traffic lights on Angel B. Fernandez Avenue corner Arellano Street and Marcelo H. Del Pilar Street, and pedestrian lanterns, have been restored to direct motorists’ and pedestrians’ movements.

The new traffic lights went on trial run on October 27 to lessen and ease the flow of traffic in one of the city’s major intersections and prevent road accidents.

The restoration of the city’s traffic lights forms part of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez’ thrust to improve the traffic management system of the city, a move which she started since she became the city mayor.

The City Engineering Office under Engineer Virginia V. Rosario said traffic lights will soon be installed in four more of the city’s major intersections: Angel B. Fernandez Avenue corner Rizal Street, Perez Boulevard corner Guilig, Perez Boulevard corner Rizal Street and Rizal Extension, and Perez Boulevard corner Marcelo H. Del Pilar Street.

The 36 sets of traffic signal lanterns and 26 sets of pedestrian lanterns with LED bulbs that will be installed will cost the city P8,594,560.80.

Mayor Belen urged pedestrians to use the pedestrian lanes and the drivers to observe the loading and unloading zones, and other traffic laws like the No Parking areas, No Waiting, No U-Turn and No Counter Flow.  (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
