THE University of Santo Tomas (UST) Conservatory of Music, in partnership with the city government, conducted a two-day seminar on music for 137 teachers of Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) in public and private schools on November 15 and 16 at CSI Stadia.

They were given orientation on musical education, vocal techniques, guitar rudiments and in conducting chorus by the faculty members of the Conservatory of Music headed by Dolores Andres along with James Peter Namit, Alberto Mesa, Elisania Cortes, Ronan Ferrer and Michael Jacinto.

Schools Division Superintendent Froserfina J. Bravo expressed gratitude to the UST Conservatory of Music and Mayor Belen T. Fernandez for organizing the seminar.

“This is a very laudable program for our MAPEH teachers in public and private schools in time for our 2nd Children Summit in February, focusing on music to keep our children from different vices including exposure to illegal drugs,” said Bravo.

Namit, in support of Bravo’s statement, emphasized the need to expose the children to classical music.

“Loud music affects the attitude of our children. It influences them to experiment on vices like illegal drugs,” said Namit who said he was impressed by the leadership of Mayor Fernandez. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
