THIS year’s Belen-Making Contest will be held at the Paseo de Belen along De Venecia Expressway Extension near the CSI the City Mall during the month-long observance of the 2016 City Fiesta which kicks off December 1.

“This is a deviation from the traditional contest of Belen-making in the barangays. We would like Paseo de Belen to become the permanent venue for the contest for practical reasons. This way, everyone will be able to appreciate the talents in our barangays in making Belens,” said Epee R. Rafanan, 2016 City Fiesta Executive Chairman.

This year’s contest will be participated in by 12 individual barangays and eight clustered barangays.

The 12 barangays which will go solo are Pantal, Barangay 1, Herrero-Perez, Lasip Grande, Malued, Tebeng, Barangay II and III, Mamalingling, Lucao, Salisay, Poblacion Oeste, Bonuan Boquig, Caranglaan and Lasip Chico.

Joining together as one entry are Barangays Bacayao Sur, Bacayao Norte and Mayombo; Barangays Pogo Chico, Pogo Grande and Barangay 4; Barangays Calmay and Carael; Barangays Tambac and Bolosan.

Barangays Binloc and Bonuan Gueset have not decided on their option.

Once the Belens are up, 20 entries will be installed in the area, a site also near the venue of the carnival and trade fair.

The Belens (Nativity scenes) will be lighted from 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. every day from December 1 to January 8 at the Paseo de Belen and will be open to the public.

The winners will receive P50,000 for first place, P30,000 and P20,000, for second and third places, respectively. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
