11 girls earn GSP’s highest, prestigious medal award

FOR leading their community in sustainable projects, 10 members of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines – Dagupan City Council were among the 758 girl scouts throughout the country conferred with the highest and most prestigious Girl Scout award, the Chief Girl Scout Medal on November 4 on the occasion of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines’ 76 Years Anniversary.

The Chief Girl Scout Medal Presentation Ceremony was held at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex in Pasay City.

The city’s awardees were Melanie F. Sanchez, Phoebe Christia Ferrer, Janelle Isabel Sarmiento, Giezel Mayrina, Dimple Manipon, Kristen Claire Z. Bacani, Fria Joyce Taminaya, Bea Nicole Ragutana, Fritzie Joyce Cacapit, and Julianna Ferrer.

Another awardee was Francine Beatriz Pradez who was cited as an Outstanding Girl Scout in the national level and a recipient of an international award.

During the flag-raising ceremony at the city plaza on Monday, the girl scouts awardees presented their awards to Mayor Belen T. Fernandez where she acknowledged the awardees as the future leaders of the city.

After the program, she invited them to a meeting where they discussed how they managed to lead their communities in development projects like beautification, health, livelihood, feeding and education.

The Girl Scouts of the Philippines – Dagupan City Council is headed by Zenaida L. Sinlao as president and Lerma P. Nicomedez as council executive with City Schools Division Superintendent Froserfina J. Bravo as commissioner on administration, Assistant Superintendent Lourdes D. Servito as chairman of the membership committee, Dr. Venus SM Estonilo as chairman of the finance committee, Dr. Beng Y. Reyes as vice president for field and Erly G. Datario as the immediate past president of the council.

The girls’ troop leaders are Araceli Nimer, Andora Villanueva, Zenaida David, Imelda Bacani, Imelda dela Rosa, Liezl Duque and Teresita Esmeralda.

The Girl Scouts of the Philippines is also celebrating its ‘40 years of Girls Leading the Communities’.

The Chief Girl Scout Medal is awarded to girl scouts who have rendered outstanding service, perseverance, dedication and zeal in community development through the Chief Girl Scout Medal scheme, and also:

–For having developed a sense of responsibility toward herself and her community and having worked determinedly on their chosen development project, and;

–For having exemplified the Girl Scouts Promise and Law in her day to day activities at home, in school and in the community.

The Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme Project is a yearlong community development project that is undertaken by a Senior Scout. It is built on the concept of the total development of the girls: their spiritual, mental, social and emotional being. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
