Young chess players join Age Group tilt

LINGAYEN – Governor Amado ‘Pogi’ I. Espino, III led the staging of the 6th Pangasinan Age Group Chess Championships at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center, here, on October 22-23.

The age group chess tournament organized by the provincial government in partnership with the Pangasinan Chess League (PCL) and sanctioned by National Chess Federation of the Philippines is the first chess tournament of Pangasinan Chess Festival 2016.

Categories participated in by local chess players from various parts of Luzon, including National Capital Region were:

Twenty-years old and under, 18 and under; 16 and under; 14 and under, 12 and under, 10 and under, and 8 and under.

Top players in each category received P6,000 (20 and under), P5,000 (18 and under), P4,000 (16 and under, 14 and under and 12 and under), P3,000 (10 and under) and P2,000 (8 and under).

Second to fifth placers received cash prizes while 5th to 10th placers got P500 each as consolation prize.

Only the chess players who participated in the 6th Gov. Amado Espino chess clinic held last September were given free registration.  (PIO)
