BAGUIO CITY– Pangasinan’s Fourth District Rep. Christopher “Toff” De Venecia

hailed the launching of the SDSN (Sustainable Development Solution Network) Youth-Philippines at Teachers’ Camp in Baguio City.

SDSN is an arm of the United Nations in pushing its Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), formerly called Millennium Development Goal (MDG).

Rep. Toff de Venecia meets with leaders of biker groups to map out new biking trails that will be developed in San Fabian. This is in line with the congressman’s thrust to develop tourism and sports in the 4th District.

De Venecia, a member of the House Committee on Youth and Sports and Basic Education, said the launching of SDSN Youth Philippines is a testament of the United Nations’ patent confidence in the immense and infinite capacity of the country’s generation to spawn sustainable development solutions that will help achieve the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals to make the world better by the year 2030.

In the next 15 years, the SDSN Youth-Philippines will be a part of a global network, mobilizing the young citizens in the country to find solutions that will “end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind.”

“As early as now, I could already envision the joyous faces of our people whose lives we are going to touch because of this concerted effort to eradicate the problems that threaten our very existence – urgent problems like HIV-AIDS, the melting of the polar icecap, income inequality, hunger in the midst of plenty, and many other pressing issues,” he said.

De Venecia said it is an exciting time to be young at this time and congratulated the pioneering leaders of SDSN Youth-Philippines.

Noting that 60 million Filipinos are below 30 years old, or approximately 58% of the total population, De Venecia marveled at what the young can do if they unite as “influencers” of change to transform the world.

He said through SDSN, young Filipinos will be empowered to take an active role in shaping the future by doing everything they  can to address the tyranny of poverty, gender inequality, improve areas of critical importance for humanity and simply make the  country a better place.

“As a millennial lawmaker, I am in total solidarity with this noble initiative,” he intoned.

“The possibility of making a difference in such a large scale is one of the reasons why, as a congressman, I am so passionate to champion the cause of the you,” he added.
