2016 PRISAA-“POGI” ESPINO CUP

THE expected tight game did not happen at all.

Title-contender Philippine Colleges of Science and Technology (PhilCST) Topnotch scored a tournament high 35 points in the first quarter against 21 of Pangasinan Merchant Marine Warriors, and never gave up the lead to the last three periods pummeling title starved Warriors, 98-71, to register its third win sans loss in the PRISAA inter-collegiate cage tilt held on October 7at Dagupan People’s Astrodome.

Capitalizing on their height advantage and agility, Topnotch’s three steadfast dribblers Gernet Asuncion, Renz Abando and Francisco dela Pena keyed the onslaught mostly done inside the perimeter combining for a total score of 61 marks that rattled the young, aggressive Warriors from the start up to the last buzzer.

The Calasiao based Topnotch will battle co-leader and defending champions University of Luzon (UL) Golden Tigers at the same venue on October 10 at 1:30 p.m. The two teams are already qualified for the semis for being undefeated after three games.

In the first game, AIE-C Green Eagles accomplished its first win after three outings by surviving a pulsating 75-74 victory over the winless PIMSAT Dragons, while UL repulsed the less-cohesive CdD Blue Stallions, 77-65. (Jesus Garcia, Jr.)
