PDRRMC lends help to 2,000 Typhoon evacuees

The Provincial Government of Pangasinan, through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), has provided relief operation and support to a total of 1,938 individuals or 465 families who sought shelter in various evacuation centers located in the towns of Bolinao, San Fabian, Agno, Calasiao, Sual, Bugallon, Bani, Urbiztondo, Lingayen and Alaminos City as of 11 a.m. on October 20.

Parallel to these efforts, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) has also conducted medical check-ups and relief operations on some 389 evacuees currently housed at the San Fabian gymnasium, San Fabian National High School and West Central School in San Fabian town on October 20.

The evacuees, apart from the usual check- ups, were given medicines for skin diseases, colds and coughs. Pregnant women also availed free maternal check-up while newborn babies were referred to the municipal health office for immunizations.

The undertaking is part of the provincial government’s unrelenting effort to ensure the safety and welfare of all evacuee families who were displaced from their homes due to the effect of Typhoon “Lawin.” Meanwhile, the PDRRMC continues to monitor the status of spill gates of San Roque Dam (SRD) which opened four of its gates at 2 p.m. on October 20 when the water level of SRD reached 285.03 (masl). This led Gov. Espino to issue a directive to LGUs and DRMM Council Officers to conduct emergency evacuation for residents living along the Agno River.

Earlier, Gov. Espino issued a directive cancelling classes in all levels at 12 noon on October 19. On October 20,

the provincial chief executive issued another public advisory on the suspension of classes in all levels, both in public and private institutions, as well as the suspension of work in government offices in Pangasinan.

Also, based on PDRRMC report, there was no typhoon-related casualties during Typhoon ‘Lawin’, the same clean record posted during Typhoon ‘Karen’

All national roads a n d major thoroughfares have been determined as passable, with no significant inundations observed in the province.
