WAR ON DRUGS INTENSIFIED

THE Pangasinan Provincial Office expressed confidence it is winning the war on drugs having already arrested and charged 713 drug pushers and users in court from July 1 to October 8 this year.

cartoonnews-161016According to P/Supt. Jackie Candelario, deputy police provincial director, the successful arrests of many high-value targets among drug personalities were made possible through intensified various police operations like buy-bust operations, serving of search warrants, police responses to citizens’ information and checkpoint operations.

Of those arrested, Candelario said, 57 were high-value targets that included barangay captains and councilmen.

From July 1 to October 8 this year, there were 16,522 pushers and users who surrendered to the police stations in the 48 towns and cities in Pangasinan.

Over the same period, 34 drug personalities killed by police operatives when they resisted arrest and engaged the latter in a firefight.

Seized during police operations have already reached 413.18 grams of illegal drugs valued at P2 million.

The PPPO, however, said it has not updated its data on on the number of drug-free barangays to date since it declared 36 as drug free on September 16 while the 390 barangays named earlier remain unaffected.

Candelario said it expects the number of drug-free barangays to increase this week when they get reports about improved rate of compliance with established parameters. (Leonardo Micua/Tita Roces)
