2016 UCAAP INTER-COLLEGIATE BASKETBALL

DEFENDING champion Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU) Dukes successfully defended its title six consecutive times by clobbering substitute finalist AIE-College Green Eagles, 101-60, in the annual Universities Colleges Athletic Association of Pangasinan (UCAAP) Inter-Collegiate Basketball Championship held on October 14 at Dr. Salvador T. Duque Fieldhouse.

The confident Dukes were visibly slow and rusty in the first period to yield the first ten minutes by two points, 20-22, despite the 11 points onslaught by MVP Aljick Aquino.

Jolted by their own disappointing performance, the Dukes recovered and finally got acts together with their usual championship cadence couple with stifling defense in the second quarter with a 24-9 romp.

The Eagles got rattles and the Dukes grabbed the front at the half, 55-36, with Joemar Ordona, Roxar Melendez, and Mariano Catabay combining a total of 20 outputs.

Dukes never look back up to the last two quarters to march off the court accompanied by the cheers of the partisan crowd.

The Dukes’ victory propelled them to do battle against the best of Region 1 next month in preparation and aim one of the slots of the national “Sweet Sixteen” of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League. (Jesus Garcia, Jr.)
