Five-year driver’s license to be issued starting Nov. 7

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) will start issuing driver’s license with five-year validity in Region 1 on Nov. 7.

This was bared by Glorioso Daniel Martinez, LTO chief in Urdaneta City last Thursday.

The fee for a driver’s license valid for five years is P585, plus P67.73 to cover cost of identification card. The fee for current driver’s license valid for one year is P350, plus the regular ID fee of P67.63.

At the same time, Martinez announced that the Anti-Distraction Driving Act which prohibits motorists from texting or using their cellphones when driving will soon be enforced throughout the country.

Other salient feature of the new law is the setting up of the speed limit for certain types of vehicles like close vans, school vans and others where violators will be fined P5,000 for the first offense, P10,000 for second offense, P15,000 for the third offense; P20,000 and revocation of driver’s license for two years for the fourth offense.
