Dagupan adopts Rotary’s ‘tusok’ project

THE adoption, practice and integration of the “tusok” system project of chapters of  Rotary Clubs in Dagupan City as part of the the plastic waste management policy of city government was endorsed by the Sanguuniang Panlungsod.

The proposed measure, titled “Practical Plastic Waste Management Project of Dagupan City” will be in compliance with Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2003.

The “tusok” system is a systematic practice of stitching used plastics on a rod. Under the resolution, the plastics gathered will be recycled.

The resolution provides for the appointment of local waste managers in every barangay who shall teach and oversee the collection of recyclables.

The Office of the City Mayor, under the proposed resolution, is mandated to create a Task Force with the participation of the Rotary Club District as the implementing agency whose added tasks will include lectures, training and seminars for the effective and efficient information dissemination.

Councilor Jigs Seen, author of the resolution said the creation of the task force and adopting of the Rotary project will not only help clear the city of flood-causing materials but will see to their proper disposal and storage for compacting process. (JCB_ CIO)
