THE city government turned over 31 salter weighing scales and three detector weighing scales to barangay midwives and barangay nutrition scholars.

The instruments from the Department of Health (DOH) arrived on Oct. 7 in time for the launching of the “Batang Belen” program or the “Batang Busog Lusog sa Tamang Nutrisyon” at the end of the month.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez turned over the instruments to Dr. Sheila Sabado, officer-in-charge at the City Health Office (CHO) at her office.

The program will be jointly implemented by the CHO and the City Nutrition Office through the Barangay Nutrition Scholars.

“The program will help us achieve our goal to achieve the target zero-malnourished children in our city through our Barangay Nutrition Scholars and our midwives, who will work hand in hand to ensure the progress of the malnourished children in every barangay,” said Mayor Fernandez.

The program will complement the city’s 120-day feeding program where there will be regular monitoring and check-ups relative to the conduct of Vitamin A supplementation.

“Aside from our existing feeding program in schools, barangays and day care centers, Batang Belen will institute in its feeding program milk feeding. This is in partnership with some private companies,” said Fernandez. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
