A YOUTH forum on heritage, organized by the Dagupan City’s Culture and Arts Office, was held at the City Museum last September 29 to promote and reawaken the youth’s awareness on the importance of the preservation of cultural heritage.

Fr. Harold Rentoria, Commissioner of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts  (NCCA) for  Heritage, discussed the topic “Understanding Filipino Cultural Heritage,” and underscored the importance of the country’s cultural heritage and promoting the pride of place among the young people, and the need to formulate programs on Cultural Heritage Preservation for the youth.

“With this forum, we are hoping that our young people will be committed to this work because it helps us maintain our identity as a people,” said Rentoria.

In the forum, the students from the different universities and colleges in the city were briefed on the Heritage Law, Dagupan History, and on the issues and concerns on Local Cultural Heritage.

The participants were made to develop Cultural Heritage Programs for local communities. Rentoria promised NCCA‘s help in their implementation.

On the second day, the participants made a heritage tour within Dagupan and Lingayen.

Rentoria thanked Mayor Belen T. Fernandez and the city’s Culture and Arts office headed by Zenaida Sinlao for supporting the endeavor.

Other speakers were lawyer Karen Isberto, Dr. Medarlo V. De Leon and Arabella Arcinue. (JCB_CIO)
