5.3 earthquake jolts Pangasinan

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Bolinao on Sunday night but no reports of injuries or damage were reported, officials said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake, which happened at around 9:40 p.m. on October 2, was tectonic in nature with a depth of 26 kilometers.

Avenix Arenas, spokesperson of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said there was no reported casualty or damage to property so far from the towns and cities in the province.

Phivolcs said the tremor was felt at Intensity IV in Lingayen.

It was at Intensity III in San Carlos City, Intensity 1 in Dagupan City.

Meanwhile, Lilibeth P. Gaydowen, corporate communication and public affairs officer for North Luzon of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, said their power transmission services remain normal hours after the earthquake.

“The grid remains intact as there had been no reported cases of power interruptions and damaged transmission facilities in North Luzon,” Gaydowen said. (AMM_PIA-Pangasinan)
