4 carjackers shot dead in armed encounter with police

MANAOAG—Four robbery, hold up and carjacking suspects were shot dead in an armed encounter with policemen dawn on Oct. 14 in Barangay Pao this town.

The slain suspects were identified as Rodrigo Batucan, 49, from Olongapo City, Edwin Ignacio, 41 from Bataan, Tommy Miranda, 41 from Laguna while one remains unknown.

A report from P/Sr. Superintendent Ronald Lee, acting provincial police director, said the suspects were on board a carjacked white Mitsubishi FB van with plate number PIX 956 and sped through a checkpoint operation established in the said barangay around 1:55 a.m.

This led to a chase and an armed encounter with joint Pangasinan and Tarlac police operatives and Highway Patrol Group (HPG) Task Force Limbas.

About 12:30 a.m., a concerned citizen informed the police that a vehicle was sighted changing plate number prompting the police to set up a checkpoint.

At 1:45 a.m., an employee of Centrum Gas Station reported that a group of male persons robbed their establishment.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered three caliber .45 pistols, a caliber .38 revolver, spent shells of calibers .45 and .38, M-16 rifle, Philippine National Police athletic uniforms, police bull caps, crowbar tools, cashier drawer and receipts from the robbed Centrum gasoline station.
