33,573 pushers, users surrender in Region 1
SAN FERNANDO CITY– A total of 33,573 self-confessed drug personalities in Region 1 already surrendered to the police from July 1 to Sept. 23 this year, with Pangasinan topping the list.
According to P/Chief Supt. Gregorio Pimentel, police regional director, the number includes pushers and users who surrendered to the different police units in Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.
Over the same period, PRO 1 also recorded 913 police operations that resulted in the arrest of 1,055 drug personalities and the deaths of 38 drug personalities during armed encounters with policemen who implemented Project: Double Barrel.
Meanwhile, a total of 89,406 houses were visited by lawmen under “Oplan Tokhang”.
He called on policemen to sustain the momentum in the campaign against illegal drugs and bring this campaign “successful for our community whom we are sworn to serve and protect.” (Leonardo Micua)
