LINGAYEN— Urdaneta City’s drug dens in Muslim village are gone.

This was revealed by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Isidro Lapeña to local reporters after the Pangasinan Anti-Illegal Drugs Summit.

Lapeña said Barangay Camantiles in Urdaneta City that used to be a hotspot and source of drug supply to users has been cleared.

“It used to be a den now it’s no longer there. In fact, houses that were used then for drug activities are gone,” he added.

He said he told those engaged in illegal drugs in his home city of Urdaneta to stop. “I did not tell them to move out of Urdaneta because it’s the same, they will follow the map wherever they go,” he said.

He lauded the all-out support of Urdaneta City Mayor Amadeo Gregory Perez IV and the PDEA Region 1 headed by Director Jeoffrey Tacio for taking the lead in clearing the said barangay from illegal drugs.

Meanwhile, he said PDEA many of its operations in the ongoing all-out war on illegal drugs that resulted in arrests were based on reports from concerned citizens.

Lapeña also confirmed that shipment of illegal drugs is also done through boats based on presence of floating drug laboratories like in Subic.

He told Pangasinan leaders attending the anti-illegal drugs summit that while the PDEA and the Philippine National Police are concentrating on the law enforcement aspect of addressing illegal drug problem, “your role in the demand reduction side is as important as what PDEA, PNP and other law enforcement agencies are doing”.

Lapeña urged them to provide for post-rehabilitation aspect of drug users like giving trainings to make them productive citizens and help them return to the mainstream society.

“Another thing that you can easily do is to organize, mobilize and get the people in the grassroots level to be involved in this fight against illegal drugs,” he added. (Tita Roces)
