2016 UCAAP JIMMY FERNANDEZ BASKETBALL CHALLENGE

DEFENDING champions Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU) Dukes and Philippine College of Science and Technology (PhilCST) Topnotch quintets both scored lopsided wins in the opening of the 2016 UCAAP Jimmy Fernandez Basketball Challenge held on September 6 at Dr. Salvador T. Duque Fieldhouse in Tapuac, Dagupan City.

Dukes power-forward Aljick Aquino who played for 12 minutes, buried 16 points with four treys in the first half to lift the Tapuac based Dukes to an insurmountable lead, 61-29, at the half period.

But it was the Dukes new recruit six-foot-two Aevin Coquia who took the cudgels in the second half by nailing 18 marks to power the five-time champions to an easy 111-55 victory over AIE Green Eagles.

In the second game, Calasiao based and perennial title-contender PhilCST easily defeated PIMSAT, 112-47.

Hostilities resume this week either on Tuesday or Friday. (Jesus Garcia, Jr.)
