LINGAYEN—An international oil and gas company established in the United Arab Emirates has proposed to develop an Energy City in Sual town with a petrochemical, refining infrastructure and logistic project complemented with a commercial port.

This plan was made known by Kampac Group’s Chairman Charles Ampofo through a letter dated Aug. 24, 2016 seeking permission of the provincial government to use the eco-tourism zone in Barangay Estanza, Lingayen town as the contractors’ settlement and workshop sites for the said project.

Ampofo’s letter to Gov. Amado Espino III said, “Our parent company Kampac Oil, is in the process of developing an energy city which consists of 3 refineries, LNG Regasification plant, a petrochemical plant, a water processing company, a non-commercial port, oil and gas port and newly built Sual town in your province.”

He said this will create employment and boost the economic development of the province and create a long-term business relationship between the people of Pangasinan and their company.

Reached for comments, Sual Mayor Roberto Arcinue said that while Ampofo had initial talks with him several months ago, there has been no other meeting since.

“As of now there is no plan yet submitted on what they are going to do here,” Mr. Arcinue said.

“No plan has been submitted to the to the municipal government of Sual,” he added.

He said he only learned about Kampac’s recent letter to the provincial board through The PUNCH.

Ampofo said he reached out to Arcinue last month but there was no formal plan finalized yet.

The provincial board decided on Monday to discuss this matter in a committee hearing to learn more details of the project.

In its website, kampac Group said was formed in 1988 whose core business is exploration and production, oil trading, oil infrastructure development, environmental and oil services. (Tita Roces)
