LINGAYEN – Governor Amado “Pogi” I. Espino, III has reiterated his administration’s full out support to President Duterte’s war on drugs even as he defended his father and predecessor from allegations that he is linked to the drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison.

Gov. Espino told participants to the 11th Liga ng mga Barangay Provincial Congress held at the Subic Bay Exhibition Center on August 28 that former governor and now 5th district Representative Amado T. Espino, Jr.  is willing to be subjected to investigation tasked by President Duterte in order to clear his name.

Pointing out the ‘irony’ of tagging his father to illegal drugs which the latter has condemned and campaigned against in all his 30 years of public service from the military, police, congress to provincial government. He said their family was completely surprised by the inclusion of his father’s name in the drug matrix.

“We would like to know who gave the president such matrix and who takes charge with the investigation,” an emotional Gov. Espino told about 1,000 village chiefs and city and town officials.

Citing the stint of his father as a decorated military and police officer who devoted time to eradicate illegal drugs, the younger Espino cited the reforms that the elder Espino initiated as the province’s chief executive to make “Pangasinan the best province to live in.”

“We have witnessed how former Gov. Espino led the province for the past nine years to make Pangasinan a premiere province,” the young Espino said that was met with thunderous applause.

He vowed to maintain and expand further all programs of the provincial government launched by his father in cooperation with the village leaders and local chief executives.

The provincial congress organized by Board Member and Liga ng mga Barangay Provincial President Jeane Jinky Zaplan carried the theme “1Barangay: Kaisa sa Pambansang Direktiba Laban sa Droga.” (MNO_PIO)
