CALASIAO – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) conducted a seminar-workshop on entrepreneurial finance and accounting from August 30 to September 1 at the Pangasinan Regency Hotel here to strengthen the businesses of local entrepreneurs.

Engr. Arnold Santos, officer-in-charge of the Pangasinan S&T Center-Satellite Office in Urdaneta City, said the activity was participated in by some 30 DOST-assisted micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that are engaged in the food processing, metals, furniture and handicraft business.

“When we visited their firms, we observed that some aspects of management like recording, inventories, quality control, among others are sometimes neglected so that when reports are needed, the owners/managers cram for recall of information,” Santos said.

He said the seminar-workshop was conducted by the agency as an innovation system support for the project beneficiaries of the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) and the Grants-In-Aid (GIA) Program.

“The seminar-workshop equipped the participants with knowledge and skills in the preparation and documentation of their financial reports,” Santos said.

The activity was made possible with the collaboration of the University of Luzon, DBC Management & Consultancy Services, and the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA)-Pangasinan Chapter.

Meanwhile, Santos said preparations are set for the staging of the first Science and Technology (S&T) Caravan scheduled on September 14 to 16 in San Fabian town.

The S&T Caravan will include science exhibits, technology, lectures, trainings and demonstrations for various livelihood programs in the municipality. (PIA-1, Pangasinan)
