THE Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) unanimously passed a resolution expressing full support for the ongoing investigation by the House of Representatives to ferret out the truth behind the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison.

Authored by Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo, a lawyer, was Draft Resolution No. 5384 that endorsed and supported “the current crusade of the Department of Justice (DOJ) to eradicate all illegal activities inside the national penitentiary and in all jails in the country”, now being brought to sharp focus with the current investigation in the House of Representatives.

“We in Dagupan City reiterate our support to the DOJ in the current House investigation into this mess, which we believe will result in the attainment of a drug-free society in the Philippines as well as Dagupan City,” Tamayo said in sponsoring the measure.

Tamayo believes that the DOJ is committed to assist the President with all that it can to eradicate the menace and the perpetrators or those responsible for the illegal drug trade who must be prosecuted and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Tamayo said the proliferation and escalation of drug trade in the Bureau of Corrections could not have happened if those in charge and those in authority did their jobs.

He called on every Dagupan resident to support this crusade of the DOJ in eradicating the drug menace in the national penitentiary to rescue the Filipino from the perils of illegal drugs. (Leonardo Micua)
