PDU30’s DRUG MATRIX

LINGAYEN— Second District Board Member Raul Sison became emotional Monday while delivering his privilege speech as he reiterated his innocence on his alleged inclusion in the drug matrix in the New Bilibid Prison released by President Duterte two weeks ago.

“It is so difficult to disprove what does not exist. I have no connection in that drug matrix. With all honesty and humility, I reiterate to you all I am innocent,” he said.

He said he was on a vacation leave in the United States of America from Aug. 18 to Sept. 12 and hurried home and arrived on Aug. 29 to clear his name when the news broke out.

“What I and my family are going through is so difficult,” a tearful Sison told his colleagues. He insisted he had nothing to do with it and has, in fact, been fighting illegal drugs since he was a councilor in his town.

He said he worries for his life and his family who are deeply hurt.

He also denied having said “Espino is the richest politician in Northern Luzon.”

“I deny saying that… I am a loyal follower of the former governor. I am not his accountant for me to know his assets, liabilities and net worth,” he added.

He said the situation now is reverse. “Instead of proving that I am connected (with drugs), I now have the obligation to prove that I am not connected with it,” he said.

He said he is still hopeful that truth will prevail. He expressed his willingness to give all that he could share through legal and legitimate means to disprove the allegation that he is part of the drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison.

He thanked his fellow board members for their immediate passage of a resolution expressing full support to him. The resolution was received by the Office of the President last Aug. 31, he added.

Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr, presiding officer in the provincial board assured Sison that he still enjoys people’s trust based on reactions he has gathered. (Tita Roces)
