Bataoil: Rep. Espino’s fate now up to Speaker

FIFTH District Rep. Amado Espino Jr. is still not ready to accept the 90-day prevention order imposed on him by the Sandiganbayan in connection with the graft charge filed against him relative to the alleged black sand mining in the Lingayen Beach.

Congressman Espino deemed it better to bring the matter of his suspension to the House of Representatives since another congressman was also meted suspension.

In a radio interview, Second District Rep. Bataoil said it is not only Espino that is being meted a preventive suspension by the Sandiganbayan but also Camarines Sur Rep. L-Ray Villafuerte who is also facing a similar case of alleged graft

Bataoil explained that Espino is seeking the wisdom of the leaders of Congress to decide on the preventive suspension imposed on two of its members.

Espino and Villafuerte were supposed to deliver their respective privilege speeches in Congress last Tuesday and to argue their respective positions but this was deferred when the other congressmen instead asked that the matter be discussed in an executive session.

Eventually, all congressmen agreed to leave the matter of suspension of one, two or more members to the Speaker of the House and whatever his decision will be, the parties will abide, said Bataoil.

Bataoil said the situation has precedence in the House of Representative and could be applicable now in the situations that Congressmen Espino and Villafuerte are in. (Leonardo Micua)
