GOODWILL GAMES 2016

THE Goodwill Games 2016 at the Divine World Academy of Dagupan pitched the province’s best ladies volleyball teams against each other last August 4.

The 2015 PRISAA Regional Champion University of Luzon Women’s volleyball team overcame a 2-set deficit and rallied from behind to eke-out a 3-sets-to-2 victory over the Capitol volleybelles.

The Capitol ladies playing sharp and in control were on the verge of sweeping the UL volleybelles after beating them in the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21.

But the Golden Tigresses of Councilor Chito Samson kept their composure and regrouped in time to snatch the next 3 sets 25-17, 25-22, and the deciding 5th set 14-10.

In the featured basketball match, the Capitol Basketball dribblers played against the Pangasinan Merchant Marine Academy Sea Warriors and the latter had to scramble past the all-star Capitol Team led by Sportsman-Governor Pogi Espino as playing manager (scoring and assisting) and ably supported by former College Stalwarts Jay-ar Andrade and Ronel Fabricante. The sea warriors won 80-73.

The two matches were organized by PAMMA Executive Vice-President Mike dela Cruz who is also the PRISAA regional president and PRISAA Executive Director Rey Ata. Veteran sportsman and arbiter Manny Gatchalian arranged the matches. (Angel Gumarang)
