Lingayen – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) has endorsed to the Department of Health (DOH) the bed capacity upgrade of the Urdaneta District Hospital (UDH) from its 110 at present to 196, or an increase of 78 percent.

The SP, in its regular session on August 16, has approved Provincial Resolution No. 81-2016 “Endorsing to the DOH the application for a license to operate a 196-bed capacity of the Urdaneta District Hospital.”

In a letter sent by UDH chief Maria Vivian Villar-Espino to SP, it was stated that the DOH regional office licensing division has already approved and issued UDH a Permit to Contruct with the minimum space requirements of a level 1 hospital with 196-bed capacity.

The SP endorsement, however, is needed to facilitate the hospital’s application for the increase in bed capacity.

One of the 14 hospitals operated by the provincial government, the UDH posted a drastic increase on its in-patients that is attribute to the improvement and rehabilitation works done by the previous provincial administration led by former governor now 5th district Representative Amado T. Espino, Jr.

“The UDH has recorded a significant increase in the number of patients who preferred to come to the hospital thereby exceeding its authorized bed occupancy, admitting an average of 237 patients daily for the past six months or an increase of 115,” the resolution reads.

SP’s endorsement to DOH of UDH’s bed capacity upgrade will serve as a booster shot for the health facility to provide a sufficient and higher level of medical and health services to its patients.

Resolution author, Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario said the move for the hospital’s upgrade of bed capacity is in line with the development thrust of the provincial administration led by Governor Amado “Pogi” Espino, III to have a mass-based health care program to accommodate all people especially the less-fortunate sector of the society. /Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca
