PSU pursues ISO 9001:2015 Certification

PANGASINAN State University is targeting to be ISO 9001:2015 certified SUC in the province this year to achieve its vision to be the ASEAN Premier State University in 2020 and make good on its commitment to institutionalize the establishment of Quality Management System in both the academic and support services.

PSU, the lone state university in Pangasinan, has started this initiative with series of trainings, assessments and consultations, said University President Dr. Dexter R. Buted and announced the appointment of Rosehall Consultancy, Inc., to help PSU in this undertaking.

Rosehall Consultancy is an all-Filipino corporation engaged in consulting and training services on Total Quality Management Systems.

ISO 9001: 2015 is one of the standards of the ISO 9000 family that sets out the requirements of a quality management system and is the only standard in the family that can be certified to (although this is not a requirement).

Dr. Buted said he is confident PSU will earn the coveted ISO certification.

The Quality Management Committee is headed by Dr. Manolito Manuel designated as Quality Management Representative, Prof. Elbert Galas as the Internal Quality Auditor, Mr. Alex Mores as the Deputy for QMS, Dr. Ruby Rosa Cruz as the Document Control Custodian, along with other PSU officials.

Some of the ISO certified institutions include Jose Rizal Memorial State University, Catanduanes State University, Southern Luzon State University, Aklan State University and Cavite State University

Supported by DBM’s allocatioin of P3.5 million, the initiative is expeted to help PSU maintain SUC Level 4 status and will further earn for  the university additional points in the Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) evaluation for Fiscal Year 2016 under Executive Order No. 80 and EO No. 201 specifically in the FY 2016 Performance Targets..

With the imminent ASEAN integration, the ISO certification ensures PSU a stronger link to international and more remarkable affiliations. The ASEAN Universities Network (AUN) accepts only ISO certified universities as members.

PSU is now on its third phase of its on-going preparations for ISO certification that covers all aspects of operations including finance and accounting services,   student services, library services, procurement services, enrolment procedures, among others. (Nikki B. Soriano, PSU-PRPIO)
