LINGAYEN—The provincial board of Pangasinan in an approved resolution Monday, lauded a teacher in this town as having been chosen as one of this year’s Metrobank Foundation’s Outstanding Teachers (SOT) awardees.

Rujealyn Cancino, 41, single, from Barangay Matalava here and a Grade VI teacher of Lingayen 1 Central School, has been named one of ten outstanding teachers in the country.

Provincial Resolution No. 64-2016 authored by Second District Board Members Nestor Reyes and Raul Sison, reads: “the Sangguniang Panlalawigan recognizes the exemplary service she delivers toward achieving effective classroom instruction thereby promoting quality education”.

It added that “the accomplishments of Cancino in showing a high level of performance and excellence in public service is worthy of emulation among Pangasinenses who aspire to become successful teachers someday”.

Cancino will receive her award next month during the anniversary celebration of Metrobank.

She, with the other nine awardees, will each receive P500,000 including medal and trophy but part of their cash award will be used to support a developmental project in their respective schools.

“I was so overwhelmed and feel very blessed,” she said.

Cancino is the second Pangasinense to win the award, the first being Trinidad Bautista from Binmaley town, now a retired education supervisor.

Cancino has been with her school for 19 years and spent three years in a private school “and I know that in everything I do, I always see to it that I do it for the love of the kids, not do it to impress other people”.

She said she it was her school’s division that prodded her to submit her accomplishments for consideration by the Metrobank Foundation search.

It was her constant practice to apply varied creative approaches to make her students learn their lessons and acquire the skills and to develop their critical thinking.

According to Metrobank, it’s her passion for teaching that impressed the board of judges. She teaches Science and English subjects and handles Campus Journalism in her school and produced national winning young journalists in annual competitions. She was also an awardee last year of the Rotary Club International District 3790 covering North Central Luzon as Outstanding Public School Teacher. (Tita Roces)
