PNP Region 1 accomplishments cited
LINGAYEN—The accomplishments of the Region 1 police on the campaign against illegal drugs is “outstanding.”
This was the assessment of P/Chief Supt. Gregorio Pimentel when he assumed his post as the region’s new director.
“The performance of the region’s police is outstanding and I hope they can keep the pace with everyone’s cooperation,” he told local newsmen after he paid courtesy call on Pangasinan’s officials on August 1.
He said his marching order to the police when he took over as new police regional director on July 18 was, “Do one good thing a day as a matter of policy”.
He said the police in the region are making headway. “You can see it through the number of surrenderees of drug dependents coming out,” he said.
“This means the programs of the government with the support of Philippine National Police (PNP) are really effective with the help of all agencies.” He added pointing out the cooperation of other agencies in the campaign against illegal drugs.
Pimentel said his office is also looking into the alleged killings of drug personalities. “We are investigating these, we will not tolerate vigilante type of operations,” he intoned.
He said the police are open to any information that will be useful to the investigation of the cases.
Pimentel also announced a reshuffle of police chiefs and he appealed to mayors to allow the PNP to have discretion to choose whoever since they will be evaluated every three months.
“So there might be frequent reshuffle of police chiefs based on performance,” he added. (Tita Roces)
