Pangasinan PNP processed 12,561 drug suspects

CAMP FLORENDO— So far, there have been 26,736 drug personalities in Region 1 that surrendered to the police in the region, and still counting.
P/Chief Superintendent Gregorio Pimentel, Region 1 police director, qualified that as of Aug. 8, out of the 26,736 drug personalities that surrendered as a result of the intensified implementation of the Police Regional Office 1’s (PRO-1) anti-illegal drugs campaign, 24,873 were self-confessed users and 1,863 self-confessed pushers.
And he pointed out that the province of Pangasinan reported the highest number of drug suspects that surrendered that totaled 12,561(or 47% of total); Ilocos Norte with 5,249, Ilocos Sur with 4,752, and La Union with 4,174.
The surrendered personalities have signed their individual pledges of commitment to change their ways and support the government’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs especially in clearing the region of illegal drug problem.
Pimentel also said a total of 252 drug personalities were also arrested during the implementation of checkpoints, warrants of arrest, search warrants, Oplan Sita, buy-bust operations and police responses.
Of this number, 23 were nabbed in Pangasinan, 111 in La Union, 36 in Ilocos Sur and 82 in Ilocos Norte.
Pangasinan also has the highest number of drug personalities killed in separate armed encounters with 19, one in Ilocos Sur and three in Ilocos Norte.
Meanwhile, the regional director also warned his personnel. “Sorry, if you are caught in illegal activities. Do your jobs and you will be rewarded,” he intoned. (Tita Roces)
