Capitol, Phivocs-DOST to sign MOA for REDAS training

LINGAYEN – The provincial government will enter into an agreeent with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology-Dept. of Science and Technology (PHIVOCS-DOST) for the training on the use of the Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS) in Pangasinan.

Under Provincial Resolution No. 65-2016, authored by Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Member Liberato Z. Villegas, Gov. Amado I. Espino, III was authorized to sign a memorandum of agreement with PHIVOCS-DOST officials to pave the way for the use of REDAS for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into local development process, contingency planning and emergency preparedness in the province.

Personnel of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and local government units (LGUs), will undergo training.

Luchinvar Oro, PDRRMO Chief, explained that REDAS has been developed for use of disaster managers to help then make decisions for quick deployment of rescue and relief operations.

REDAS software is a seismic hazard simulation software that aims to produce hazard and risk maps immediately after the occurrence of a strong and potentially damaging earthquake.  It can be used to conduct seismic hazard and risk assessment, sort earthquake data parameters, produce map of different sizes, perform screen digitization, and develop risk database.
