Mayor Belen T. Fernandez led the activity that started at 6:30 a.m. and was participated in by personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office headed by Ronald De Guzman.

The mayor said the city intends to plant at least 10,000 coconut trees in the next three years, an activity that will not just provide protection to the city but also livelihood to the city’s population especially those engaged in making local delicacies like pastillas in Lasip Grande.

“What is important is, it will save lives and provide supply as well to our coconut industry aside from the beautification it will give to our shorelines that are now major tourist attractions,” said Mayor Fernandez.

So far, the city has already planted 3,000 coconut seedlings in both Pugaro and Bonuan Gueset. (Joseph C. Bacani)
