Veteran rider Obosa tops San Fabian cycling

TOUR veteran and former PH national team member Ericson Obosa of Manaoag, using his skills diligently sans mistakes, outsprinted breakaway partner hometown kid Rene Esteban, in the last 400 meters to top San Fabian Mayor Agbayani’s Cup Fil-Am Friendship Day Cycling Challenge last July 3.

Obosa and Esteban, both 36 years of age, clocked the 120 kilometers of both hilly and flat muddy trek in three hours 23 minutes and 14 seconds, outdistancing third placer Reynaldo Navarro of San Jacinto by three minutes and five seconds. Nilo Estayo of Pozorrubio and Jesus Garcia of Sta. Maria checked in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Rounding up the top ten were: Richard Aquino of Mangaldan; Jun Aragon of Manila; Roque Bautista of San Fabian; Joel Balucos of Manila; and Marlon Bartolome of Tarlac City.
The top three winners received trophy each and cash prizes while fourth to tenth placers collected medal apiece and also with cash prizes.

The 60 year-old category conducted over 60 kilometers had 16 participants and was won by Jaime Besa Cruz of San Jacinto. Rolando dela Cruz of Malasiqui and Alex Jugo of San Fabian came in a close second and third, respectively.

Rounding up the top nine were: Allan Capito of Dagupan City; Pets Surat of Mangaldan; Dan Padua of Mapandan; Rene Quinto of San Fabian; Engr. Rodoldo Dion of Calasiao; and Nol Espino of Dagupan City.

The top five winners earned cash prizes and medal each while the sixth up to ninth finishers were awarded medal apiece.

On the distaff side, Gezelle Butala of San Fernando City, La Union topped the 60-kilometer event. Joyca del Socorro of Quezon City, Marita Naz and Alona Alinsung of Baguio City and Gabby Ortega of San Fernando City, La Union finished second to fifth, respectively receiving amedal each. (Jesus Garcia, Jr.)
